The stems are reddish with grey-green leaves that have a distinctive red-brown tip.[5] This characteristic allows them to be separated from the bristly haircap (Polytrichum piliferum), a plant that the juniper haircap moss closely resembles. The difference is that the bristly haircap has a clear (white) leaf tip.[6] The leaves of juniper haircap moss are lanceolate and upright spreading when dry, and when moist, wide-spreading. Although their growth form can be varied, they generally grow in thin, interwoven mats, and hardly as closely associated individuals.[3][7] Juniper haircap moss have a well-developed system of tiny tubes for carrying water from the rhizoids to leaves that is uncharacteristic of mosses, resembling the system that has evolved in vascular plants such as ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms. As a result of this developed system, stems have greater potential for height than in typical mosses.

We put it in and covered it with netting to keep the birds and squirrels out until it establishes. It looks great. Thanks for the great packing job and giving us such good specimens.

We just got it placed and will get some more. It was in great shape and packaged well. We are making a rock/ moss garden to edge our fern garden. I can't send a picture yet because we had to cover it with mesh to keep birds and squirrels out for awhile

Bad communication even after two weeks of waiting on item

Moss arrived well packaged and in good condition. However, package contained about 90% rock cap/dicranum moss and about 10% of the advertised hair cap/polytrichum moss. Unfortunately, my needs were specifically for polytrichum, and I suspect the dicranum won’t survive. Additionally, package was in preshipment for a week until seller was contacted, at which point I was told it had been packaged “that day”. It took another week for the package to be picked up by delivery service with no further communication from the seller.
